The Los Angeles Rams entered this offseason with plenty of question marks surrounding their offense—from the futures of Puka Nacua and Davante Adams to the recent buzz around Matthew Stafford following the Ty Simpson draft pick. But while those storylines grabbed headlines, the Rams quietly addressed their most glaring weakness from last season: the secondary.

Thanks to some unexpected help from the Kansas City Chiefs, the Rams' cornerback room has undergone a dramatic transformation. ESPN's Sarah Bishop recently identified cornerback as the team's most improved position this offseason, and the reasoning is crystal clear.

"The Rams went into the offseason knowing there would be significant turnover at the position, as the team had four pending free agents at cornerback," Bishop noted. "Los Angeles invested heavily at the position in March, trading for Trent McDuffie and signing Jaylen Watson to a three-year deal."

It's a remarkable turnaround for a unit that struggled mightily down the stretch in 2025, most notably failing to contain Sam Darnold in a disastrous end to the season. The Rams knew they needed reinforcements, and the Chiefs proved to be the perfect trading partners.

Kansas City not only allowed Watson to hit free agency—where he quickly became a key signing for Los Angeles—but also agreed to trade McDuffie, a proven playmaker who helped the Chiefs capture two Super Bowl titles. Now, these former teammates are reunited in the Rams' secondary, bringing championship experience and much-needed stability to a position group that was in flux.

While the Rams could have explored other options, landing two players with McDuffie's and Watson's pedigree—both of whom know what it takes to win at the highest level—was a decisive move that addresses last season's biggest liability. The Chiefs may have moved on, but the Rams are reaping the rewards.
