The Las Vegas Raiders have seen a notable jersey number shuffle this offseason, and the latest move has one of their free agent additions landing a coveted single-digit look. Wide receiver Jalen Nailor, who signed with the Raiders back in March, has officially switched from No. 83 to No. 9—a number that became available after the team traded former first-round pick Tyree Wilson to the New Orleans Saints on draft day.
When Nailor first joined the Raiders, he initially took No. 83, the same jersey he wore during his first three NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings drafted him in the sixth round in 2022, and he gradually worked his way into a starting role by his third year. That breakout prompted him to switch to a single-digit number in Minnesota, where he landed No. 1. But that option wasn't open in Las Vegas, as fellow wideout Tre Tucker already had dibs on No. 1 and wasn't budging.
Nailor's patience paid off much faster this time around. Less than two months after settling for 83, the trade of Wilson—who was the seventh overall pick in the 2023 draft—opened up No. 9. Nailor snatched it up like a bullet pass right at his facemask, giving him the single-digit look he clearly prefers. As a Michigan State Spartan, he wore No. 8, so the shift to 9 keeps him in that familiar territory. (Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins, of course, already claims No. 8, having worn it at his two previous NFL stops.)
Nailor now joins Tre Tucker (No. 1) and Shedrick Jackson (No. 4) as the only Raiders wide receivers sporting single-digit numbers. For fans tracking the team's evolving identity, this jersey swap is a small but telling sign of Nailor's rising stock in the Silver and Black—and a reminder that in the NFL, sometimes a new number can feel like a fresh start.
