Jon Rahm is in the driver's seat heading into the final round of LIV Golf Mexico, but he'll have to fend off a familiar face to secure the victory. The Spanish star caught fire late Saturday, birdieing three of his last four holes for a 4-under 67, giving him a one-shot lead over his Legion XIII teammate, Tyrrell Hatton.
This sets up a thrilling Sunday showdown between the two stars. It will be the first time they've been paired together in a final round on the LIV circuit, adding a unique layer of competition to their usual camaraderie. Rahm acknowledged the shift, noting, "I can imagine we’re going to be speaking a little bit less than we do normally just because of the situation."
Rahm is chasing his second LIV win of the season, having already triumphed in Hong Kong. A victory would be a powerful statement after a winless 2025. He also has some history to rewrite at Chapultepec Golf Club, where in 2017 a pair of late three-putt bogeys cost him a chance to chase down Dustin Johnson in a World Golf Championship.
Hatton, who carded a 66, has his own score to settle with the course. In the 2018 WGC event here, he bogeyed the final hole while tied with Phil Mickelson, missing a playoff. "Hopefully the bounces will be on my side tomorrow," Hatton said, drawing on past experience to fuel his challenge.
Just behind the leading duo, Branden Grace (65) and Tom McKibbin (69) lurk another shot back, ensuring the battle for the title will be intense from start to finish on Sunday.
