After 14 straight seasons without a winning record, the R.B. Stall Warriors are turning to a familiar face to lead their football program back to glory. Joe Hauff, a longtime assistant and athletic administrator, has been promoted to head coach—taking the reins from Kenneth Freeman, who stepped down after a 1-18 run over two seasons.

"Their history is a coach is here a couple years and then he's gone. Then you lose continuity and your program drops down," Hauff told local reporters. "I love these kids too much to let that happen."

It's been 15 years since the North Charleston, South Carolina, program finished above .500—back in 2011, when the Warriors posted a 7-4 record. Since then, the team has managed just 15 total wins across 14 seasons, including a 1-9 finish in 2025 that landed them at No. 189 in the state's final Massey Rankings.

Hauff isn't just stepping onto the field—he's stepping up from a broader leadership role. R.B. Stall executive principal Steve Larson highlighted Hauff's experience as Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, and Dean of Students, noting he's overseen 26 varsity and junior varsity teams, managed budgets, coordinated facilities, and helped build strong booster organizations. "In addition to his success on the field, Hauff has demonstrated exceptional leadership in athletic administration," Larson said.

For a program that's seen coaches come and go, Hauff's commitment to continuity and the kids themselves could be the steady hand the Warriors have been searching for. Fans and players alike will be watching closely as the team aims to turn a corner—and maybe, finally, bring that winning feeling back to Stall High School.
