No. 1-seed Queen Creek and No. 2 Casteel both won must-win games to keep their title hopes alive in the 6A baseball tournament.

The 6A baseball tournament is heating up, and two of Arizona's top seeds are proving they have what it takes to battle back from the brink. No. 1 Queen Creek and No. 2 Casteel both delivered clutch performances on May 9, winning must-win games to keep their championship dreams alive.

Queen Creek staged a thrilling comeback, erasing a 3-0 deficit to eliminate Phoenix Brophy Prep 6-3. The turning point came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Tyke Daniels crushed a three-run homer, flipping the momentum and electrifying the home crowd. Shortstop Dre Ethier set the tone early for Brophy with two RBI singles, but Queen Creek's resilience shone through. Diego Armenta added a solo homer for the Bulldogs, while sophomore Kasen Barricklow earned the win with three innings of shutdown relief, allowing just two hits and no walks.

"Brophy is really a well-coached team," Queen Creek coach Mikel Moreno said. "We knew we would have to be fundamentally sound and execute at a high level to give ourselves the opportunity to advance."

Queen Creek (27-4) now sets its sights on a rematch against Mesa Red Mountain (22-8) on May 12 at 4 p.m. at Queen Creek. The winner advances to the state semifinals. Red Mountain handed Queen Creek its first tournament loss on May 5, a 7-5 decision, but then dropped into the losers' bracket after falling 7-2 to defending state champion Tempe Corona del Sol (21-7).

Over at Casteel (22-8), the Colts are also riding momentum after a dominant 12-6 win over Yuma Kofa. Jose Bingochea was the star of the show, delivering three hits and four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fourth inning and an RBI single in the sixth. Connor Russell chipped in with four hits and three RBIs as the Colts pounded out 16 hits as a team. On the mound, Nolan Leitner earned the win with four innings of work, allowing just three hits and no runs.

Casteel will get its own shot at redemption on May 12 at 4 p.m., hosting Phoenix Sandra Day O'Connor (24-9) in a rematch. O'Connor was sent to the losers' bracket after Chandler Hamilton (20-9) rallied for an 11-7 win. Gavin Hamilton provided the heroics for Hamilton, crushing a bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning to cut O'Connor's lead to 7-4. A sacrifice fly made it 7-5, and in the sixth, a wild pitch with the bases loaded tied the game before Hamilton completed the comeback.

With both Queen Creek and Casteel fighting to extend their seasons, the 6A tournament is shaping up to be a battle of grit, power, and second chances. Who will rise to the occasion?
