The PWHL is banking on the growth of women's hockey. It's adding new teams in Las Vegas and Ontario, starting with the 2026-2027 season.

The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) is charging full speed ahead with its expansion plans, announcing two new teams set to debut in the 2026-2027 season. Las Vegas and Hamilton, Ontario, will join the growing league, marking another milestone in women's hockey's rapid rise.

Las Vegas will make its home at the iconic T-Mobile Arena, sharing the ice with the NHL's Golden Knights. Meanwhile, Hamilton's squad will take the ice at TD Coliseum, tapping into a region with deep hockey roots. "Hamilton and its surrounding communities have long been central to the growth of girls' and women's hockey," said Jayna Hefford, PWHL executive vice president of hockey operations, highlighting the passionate fanbase that turned out for the league's Takeover Tour game there.

The addition of Las Vegas and Hamilton comes hot on the heels of Detroit's recently announced expansion franchise. That brings the league's total to 11 teams by the time next season rolls around, a testament to the surging interest in women's hockey. As Amy Scheer, the PWHL's executive vice president of business operations, noted, "The Las Vegas community has enthusiastically embraced both hockey and women's sports," pointing to the city's support for the Golden Knights and WNBA's Aces.

With these new markets, the PWHL is betting big on growth—and the numbers back it up. From booming youth hockey participation to record-breaking attendance, the league is riding a wave of momentum. More details on how these expansion teams will be built, including their integration into the 2026 PWHL Draft, are expected in the coming weeks. For now, fans in Vegas and Hamilton have plenty to look forward to as women's hockey continues its exciting expansion.
