WEST LAFAYETTE — While Purdue football fans have been busy analyzing transfer portal additions and scouting new playmakers, the Boilermakers' most impactful offseason upgrade might not be a player at all. It's a coach—and he's working in the trenches.

Offensive coordinator Josh Henson identified a critical need for Purdue's offensive line to shift toward a more technique-driven approach. That realization led him to reunite with Zach Crabtree, who was brought in from Fresno State to coach the Boilermakers' offensive line. Henson and Crabtree previously worked together at USC, and Henson also coached Crabtree during his playing days at Oklahoma State.

"He's a great technician and a great teacher. Every small detail matters to Coach Crabtree, and he is coaching it constantly, all the time," Henson said after Purdue's spring showcase event on April 11. "When you bring that type of attention to detail and competency to the room, it just elevates everybody in the room. And that's what his effect has been since he's been here."

For a program looking to establish dominance in the Big Ten trenches, that kind of coaching upgrade can be the difference between a good season and a great one. Technique-driven offensive line play often translates into better pass protection, more explosive run lanes, and ultimately, more points on the board.
