Paris Saint-Germain have been the most thrilling outfit in Europe over the last year but Luis Enrique's side showed another side to their game as they held off Bayern Munich on Wednesday to reach a second straight Champions League final.- Now they are the first team since Liverpool in 2019 to reach back-to-back finals in the competition, and a win over Arsenal in Budapest on May 30 will see them become only the second side in the Champions League era to retain the title.

Paris Saint-Germain have built their reputation on dazzling flair and attacking brilliance, but on Wednesday night in Munich, they proved they can grind out results just as effectively as they can produce magic. Luis Enrique's side edged past Bayern Munich to reach their second consecutive Champions League final, becoming the first team since Liverpool in 2019 to achieve back-to-back final appearances. A victory over Arsenal in Budapest on May 30 would make PSG only the second club in the Champions League era to successfully defend the title.

After the breathtaking 5-4 first-leg thriller that many hailed as one of the greatest matches in competition history, the return leg at the Allianz Arena was a completely different story. PSG showed a grittier, more disciplined side to their game. Ousmane Dembele struck inside three minutes with a devastating counter-attack, and then the French champions dug deep, putting on a defensive masterclass. Bayern, who had scored in every game this season, were kept at bay until Harry Kane's late equalizer—but it came too little, too late. The 1-1 draw sent PSG through 6-5 on aggregate.

"Tonight showed what type of team we are," Luis Enrique said. "We showed our maturity, being able to defend as well as attack. As a coach, it was a pleasure to see that performance." Desire Doue echoed the sentiment: "We can't always win with magic or extraordinary play. Today we had to defend a lot, but we defended very well."

Leading the defensive resistance was the towering Willian Pacho, who remarkably won all six of his duels on the night. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery was magnificent filling in at right-back for the injured Achraf Hakimi. The France midfielder has arguably been PSG's player of the season, logging more minutes than anyone else. His relentless work rate and consistency have been crucial for a side navigating the physical toll of an extended campaign, including last season's run to the Club World Cup final that left them with just a three-week break.

For a club that has chased European glory since the transformative Qatari takeover in 2011, this blend of flair and steel might be exactly what they need to finally lift the trophy again.
