In a move that blends professional experience with collegiate ambition, the Providence Friars have secured a major commitment for the 2026-27 season. Former NBA G League guard Dink Pate, currently with the Westchester Knicks, has pledged to join head coach Bryan Hodgson's program.

Pate brings a unique and compelling resume to the Big East. A former top-30 national recruit in the high school class of 2023—which included current NBA rookies like Stephon Castle and Matas Buzelis—he initially bypassed traditional college powers like Alabama and Kansas to join the professional pathway of the G League Ignite. His journey has since taken him through the G League, where he has developed into a dynamic playmaker, averaging 17.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists this season.

What makes this commitment particularly noteworthy is the sacrifice involved. Pate intentionally preserved his college eligibility by turning down multiple 10-day and two-way contract offers from NBA teams, demonstrating a clear commitment to his development and the collegiate experience. He now joins a growing trend of former G League players, like James Nnaji and Charles Bediako, who have successfully transitioned to high-major college basketball.

For new Friars coach Bryan Hodgson, Pate represents a second significant recruiting victory in less than a month, following the commitment of San Diego State transfer Miles Byrd. These additions are crucial for a Providence roster looking to rebuild after eight players, including three of its top scorers, entered the transfer portal this offseason. Pate's professional polish and proven production could make him an immediate impact player and a cornerstone for Hodgson's new era in Providence.
