The San Francisco 49ers have built a roster that’s the envy of the NFL, with stars on both sides of the ball. General Manager John Lynch has been busy this offseason, signing wide receiver Mike Evans to a three-year, $42 million deal and trading for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa. Now, a former Pro Bowl defender wants to join the party.
On Tuesday’s episode of the Up & Adams Show, free agent linebacker Kyle Van Noy expressed strong interest in suiting up for the 49ers. “I’d really like to play with my little brother, Fred Warner, with the Niners,” Van Noy said. “I think they got something cooking over there. I know they love Joey Bosa because of Nick and all that, but I would love to play with my little brother. That’s my guy.”
Van Noy, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, knows a winning culture when he sees one. At 35 years old, he’s still producing on the field. Last season with the Baltimore Ravens, he played 15 games, tallying 20 tackles, two sacks, an interception, and four pass deflections. In 2024, he had a career-high 12.5 sacks, earning his first and only Pro Bowl selection.
The 49ers already boast one of the league’s top defenses, anchored by All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner. Adding a savvy veteran like Van Noy could provide depth and leadership, especially in high-pressure situations. While his age might raise eyebrows, his recent production suggests he’s far from done. For a team with championship aspirations, bringing in a player who knows what it takes to win a ring could be a smart move.
Whether the 49ers pull the trigger remains to be seen, but Van Noy has made his intentions clear: he wants to be part of something special in San Francisco.
