When you're a high school athlete, there's no better feeling than having your hard work pay off in a big moment. For Noah Geiger of the Princeville baseball team, that moment came with a no-hitter that earned him the Journal Star boys athlete of the week honor for April 20-25.

The senior pitcher was simply dominant on the mound. In the second game of a doubleheader against Galva on April 20, Geiger tossed a five-inning no-hitter, leading the Princes to a 9-0 victory. He struck out five batters and walked just two on 70 pitches—a masterclass in efficiency and control.

But Geiger didn't just shine on the mound; he also delivered at the plate. He crushed a three-run home run as part of a seven-run fifth inning, putting the game out of reach. And when the Princes needed a clutch performance in the series finale, Geiger came through again, scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure a 3-2 victory and complete the series sweep against Galva.

It's performances like these that remind us why baseball is such a thrilling sport. Whether you're a pitcher looking to perfect your craft or a hitter searching for that game-changing swing, Geiger's all-around effort is a blueprint for success.

Geiger wasn't the only standout athlete nominated this week. Other top performers included a senior pitcher who twirled a no-hitter against Pekin, striking out eight in a 14-0 win; a three-event winner who dominated the sprints and anchored a winning relay team; a junior who set a new school record in the 800-meter run; and a senior who recorded a personal-best triple jump that was nearly 14 inches farther than his previous best.

Every week, we see incredible talent on display, and it's always exciting to recognize the athletes who go above and beyond. If you know a standout performer who deserves recognition, we'd love to hear about it. Last week's winner was Patrick Peterson of the Dunlap track & field team, and the bar keeps getting higher.

Whether you're a player, coach, or fan, there's nothing like celebrating the achievements of young athletes. Here's to more no-hitters, personal bests, and unforgettable moments on the field.
