Two outstanding student-athletes have earned prestigious recognition and financial support for their college journeys. The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Section 8 has awarded $2,500 scholarships to Mylie Lempea of Knappa High School in Oregon and Wyatt Moura of Cambridge High School in Idaho. These scholarships, which also include commemorative plaques, were announced at the annual Section 8 spring meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, earlier this May.

Section 8 covers a broad region of the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West, including Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming. Being selected from such a competitive pool makes this honor even more impressive for both recipients.

Mylie Lempea, set to graduate from Knappa High School on June 6, has been a true multi-sport powerhouse throughout her high school career. On the cross-country team, she earned three varsity letters and was a Northwest League Champion, earning First Team honors three times while competing at State. In softball, she lettered all four years, served as team captain, and made the Northwest League First Team.

Lempea truly shined on the basketball court, where she earned four varsity letters and captained the team three times. Her accolades include being named Northwest League Player of the Year three times, Defensive Player of the Year once, and earning First Team All-State honors twice. She also lettered in soccer, where she was recognized as a First Team All-League forward.

Beyond athletics, Lempea has been a leader in her school and community. She served as Student Council President for both her junior and senior years and was a Knappa School Board student representative. On a global scale, she was a U.S. representative on the Global TikTok Youth Council, advising on issues of safety, inclusion, and well-being. Her community service includes volunteering at the Knappa High School Foundation Dinner, coaching youth basketball, and giving time at a local senior center.

Wyatt Moura, graduating from Cambridge Middle/High School in Idaho on May 23, has made his mark as a dedicated two-sport athlete in football and wrestling. He earned varsity letters in both sports all four years and qualified for State in wrestling every season. He placed sixth at State as both a sophomore and junior, and finished second at the Districts 1A competition as a junior.

On the football field, Moura was a standout on both sides of the line. He earned All-Conference First Team honors at center all four years, and added First Team recognition at defensive end and linebacker during his sophomore and junior seasons.

Both Lempea and Moura exemplify the dedication, leadership, and community spirit that the NIAAA Section 8 Student Scholarship program aims to recognize. Their achievements both on the field and in the classroom make them role models for young athletes everywhere.
