President Trump was recently asked whether the NFL is dabbling in price gouging by putting future games on several paid platforms.

President Trump has weighed in on the NFL's recent shift toward paid streaming platforms, and he's not holding back. When asked by Full Measure whether the league is engaging in price gouging by moving future games to services like Amazon Prime, Peacock, and Netflix, Trump didn't mince words.

"It's tough," Trump said. "You've got people that love football. They're great people. They don't make enough money to go and pay this. It's tough. And they could be killing the golden goose."

For fans who've grown accustomed to flipping on their TVs for Sunday afternoon games, the growing paywall is a sore spot. But Trump didn't stop there. He also took aim at the NFL's revamped kickoff rule—a change designed to reduce high-speed collisions while preserving the excitement of returns.

"It's unwatchable," Trump said. "I hate the games where they have the new phony kickoff. I don't think it's any safer. I hope college football doesn't do that."

The league adopted the new kickoff format in 2024, hoping to balance player safety with the thrill of special teams. But for Trump and many traditionalists, the change misses the mark.

As for the streaming shift, Trump warned the NFL to tread carefully. "They have to be careful because others have tried this, and all of a sudden you don't have a sport anymore," he said. "There's something very sad when they take football away from many, many people. Very sad. I don't like it."

With games now scattered across multiple platforms—each requiring its own subscription—some fans are feeling left behind. While no government intervention seems imminent, the debate over accessibility is heating up. For now, the NFL's golden goose is still flying, but Trump's warning serves as a reminder that loyalty only stretches so far when the price of admission keeps rising.
