When you're a sports fan, you never miss a chance to get the latest scoop on your favorite players. And as it turns out, the President of the United States is no different. Donald Trump, a known admirer of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, recently took an unusual but heartfelt approach to check on the injured star's recovery.
During a visit to the White House, President Trump didn't hesitate to ask the owners of Slap BBQ, a beloved Kansas City barbecue institution, for an update on Mahomes. "Most importantly, how is Mahomes doing?" Trump inquired. One of the brothers responded reassuringly, "He's going to be OK." The President then added, "You tell the people we love him."
Trump also wanted to know if Mahomes would be ready for Week 1 of the upcoming season. This concern comes as no surprise, given the close ties between the Mahomes family and the President. At Super Bowl 2025, Mahomes' mother Randi, brother Jackson, and sister Mia Randall were spotted posing for a photo in Trump's suite before the game—a moment shared on X by Margo Martin, a special assistant to the president.
Patrick's wife, Brittany, has also been a vocal Trump supporter, famously wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat in her box at Arrowhead Stadium during a Monday night game before Election Day. The President had nothing but praise for the Mahomes women. "I love those two women—they're so great," he said, according to FOX News. "And they're so loyal. They're so great. I met Patrick's mother at the game. Before the game started, she came over. And Brittany, I've seen so much of Brittany, just being so loyal and beautiful. It's really nice."
Mahomes' injury—a season-ending torn ACL and LCL in his left knee suffered against the Los Angeles Chargers—has sparked concern from fans nationwide, including the Commander-in-Chief. But the Chiefs quarterback has been putting in the work, spending most of his daily rehab in Kansas City as he pushes toward a full recovery. With support from the highest office in the land, it's clear the sports world is rooting for his return.
