Before beginning its postseason next week in the Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes, the defending national champion Oklahoma State men's golf team had a meeting at the White House.
The Cowboys were one of seven collegiate teams honored Tuesday in Washington D.C., as President Donald Trump hosted more than 100 national championship athletes from the past year during Collegiate National Champions Day.
In addition to OSU's men's golf team, others honored include Texas A&M women's volleyball, Wake Forest men's tennis, Georgia women's tennis, Youngstown State women's bowling, Florida State women's soccer and West Virginia mixed rifle.
The Cowboys defeated Virginia 4-1 last year at Omni La Costa's North Course to capture the 12th men's golf title in school history, the second most in NCAA history. Houston has the most with 16.
"The incredible team showcased consistency, grit and precision all season long led by head coach Alan Bratton," Trump said. "The Cowboys dominated throughout the spring, capturing multiple victories before securing their 12th national title."
It's not uncommon for college golf teams to visit the president. Oklahoma's 2017 team and Stanford's 2019 squad also made trips to the White House in recent years.
Trump told the team he wanted to play golf them sometime but admitted it was not a match he was looking forward to, which got a chuckle from the audience.
"I'm going to try giving you a match. I think it's going to be tough," he said.
Trump also told the Cowboys to let him know any time they were in town and he would get them to a "special place on the Potomac River," presumably talking about Trump National Golf Club, which is hosting LIV Golf Virginia next month the week before the PGA Championship.
