In the world of high school sports, few coaches can match the sheer versatility and dedication of Armando Fernandez. As the 2025-26 season unfolds, Fernandez has taken multitasking to an entirely new level, juggling head coaching duties across multiple sports and schools with remarkable success.

Fernandez currently serves as head coach for boys' basketball and volleyball at Sotomayor High, while also stepping in as interim head coach for the baseball team. Not stopping there, he's also taken the reins as head coach for Franklin's flag football team. The results speak for themselves: every one of his teams has secured playoff victories this season.

But Fernandez's plate is far from full with coaching alone. He teaches religion classes at Cathedral High School and serves as the director of transportation. On top of all that, he's a devoted husband and father to three children, ages 19, 10, and 4. When asked how he manages it all, Fernandez credits his support system: "Lucky I have an amazing wife who is supportive."

His most recent challenge came just two weeks ago when he took over as interim baseball coach at Sotomayor. With the help of a volunteer assistant, the team opened the City Section Division III playoffs with an impressive 7-2 victory over Smidt Tech. Meanwhile, his two daughters are active in softball, and his youngest is eagerly awaiting his T-ball debut.

In the world of sports, we often say coaches must wear many hats. For Armando Fernandez, that's not just a saying—it's a way of life. His story is a testament to the passion and commitment that drives high school athletics, proving that with the right mindset and a supportive team, you can truly do it all.
