The stage is set for another electrifying weekend of high school track and field as the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays get underway. Fresh off historic performances, all eyes will be on the relay teams from Servite and Rosary as they look to build on their record-shattering momentum.
Last weekend at the legendary Arcadia Invitational, the Servite squad of sophomores Jace Wells, Jorden Wells, Kamil Pelovello, and junior Benjamin Harris blazed to a state-record time of 39.70 seconds in the boys' 4x100m, cementing their status as the fastest in California history.
Not to be outdone, their sister school, Rosary, made history of its own. The team of sophomore Tra’via Flournoy, senior Justine Wilson, junior Pfeiffer Lee, and sophomore Maliyah Collins shattered a 22-year-old state record, clocking a stunning 44.23 seconds to surpass the legendary mark set by Long Beach Poly.
Coach Brandon Thomas, who works with both powerhouse programs, emphasized the importance of supporting the track community by having his athletes compete at Mt. SAC. This meet offers another prime opportunity for these young stars to test their speed and teamwork against elite competition.
Beyond the relays, defending state high jump champion JJ Harel will also be in action. After clearing 6 feet, 9 inches to win at Arcadia, he aims to continue his impressive comeback, having only recently returned to full training following an injury.
Events like the Mt. SAC Relays showcase the incredible dedication and explosive talent found in prep sports, where future champions are born and records are made to be broken.
