Prep sports recap for May 14, 2026

Prep sports action heated up across Central Illinois on Thursday, with standout performances and big commitments making headlines. The defending Class 1A girls track state champion El Paso-Gridley Titans are charging full speed toward another title run after a dominant showing at the Tremont sectional. With a commanding 133 points, the Titans left the competition in the dust—runner-up LVC managed just 82.5 points, while Illini Bluffs took third with 70.

Leading the charge was Jaida Reed, who sprinted to victory in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, and then anchored the winning 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams. Keyli Cogdal added to the Titans' haul by taking first in the 300-meter hurdles and second in the 100-meter hurdles, while the 4×800 relay squad also crossed the finish line first. Meanwhile, fellow Heart of Illinois Conference school Tri-Valley claimed the 1A Maroa sectional title. All eyes now turn to the state meet, set for May 21-23 in Charleston.

On the softball diamond, Illini Bluffs senior Sara Finn delivered a game-changing performance, smacking a two-run homer as part of a three-hit night to lead the Tigers past visiting Brimfield, 7-3. Dunlap, East Peoria, Metamora, and Canton also notched wins. In baseball, Metamora, Limestone, and Tremont all came out on top.

In recruiting news, Morton offensive lineman Soren Fifer made a big decision, committing to the University of Illinois. The 6-foot-7, 300-pound junior chose the Fighting Illini over Big Ten rivals Indiana, Iowa, Oregon, and Northwestern—a major pickup for the program.

Finally, Notre Dame freshman Siena Stone is taking her talents overseas. She was selected to represent the USA U15 national soccer team, which will travel to the Netherlands next week for training and two exhibition games. It's a fantastic opportunity for the young standout to gain international experience.
