The Logansport Berries are rolling! The baseball team kept its perfect record intact Friday night, moving to 5-0 with a hard-fought 9-6 victory over West Lafayette at Jim Turner Field. The tone was set early when Braylon Ritchie launched a massive three-run homer in the first inning, part of a five-RBI night that powered the Berries to a lead they would never surrender.
Ritchie wasn't alone in the offensive explosion. Taylor Albright drove in four runs, while Hudson Shank tripled and scored twice. On the mound, Lucas Jones and Easton Sweet combined efforts to secure the win. The Berries look to continue their hot streak today in a doubleheader, now scheduled for 11 a.m. at their home field.
Meanwhile, the Cass Kings earned a nail-biting 1-0 pitchers' duel victory over Blackford, thanks to a masterful performance from Kaison Walker-Hipsher. The right-hander was dominant, firing a complete-game, two-hit shutout and racking up 10 strikeouts. The Kings' lone run came in the fifth inning, manufactured by small ball and a crucial sacrifice fly.
In softball action, the Logansport Berries' bats were as hot as the pitching was cold. Gracie Risley and Jentry Strong combined for a one-hit shutout in a run-rule victory. Risley was spectacular from the circle and the plate, striking out eight in three hitless innings and blasting two home runs with four RBIs. The Berries (7-1) host the Ron Kinnaman Classic today, facing a tough test against Fishers.
The Caston Comets are also building momentum with a pair of wins. They powered past Kokomo 13-1 behind a two-hit, 12-strikeout gem from Hadlie Coffing and a 3-for-4, three-RBI day from Kylee Logan. They followed that up with a 4-2 win over Twin Lakes, fueled by another strong pitching performance from Natalie Warner. Elsewhere, the Winamac Warriors improved to 6-1 with a victory over Cass, led by multi-hit games from Makayla Werner and Adrianna Hall.
