Friday's prep sports action delivered plenty of drama, with come-from-behind victories, dominant pitching performances, and hard-fought tournament battles. Here's a breakdown of the key matchups from May 1.

BASEBALL

In a thrilling contest, Concord rallied past Warsaw 9-8, scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a deficit. The game was moved to Nappanee after both teams' home fields were unplayable. Derek Gomez and Lukas Ulfig each drove in two runs, with Ulfig enjoying a perfect day at the plate in three at-bats. The win improves Concord to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Goshen put on an offensive showcase, scoring all 14 of its runs in a massive third inning to rout Wawasee. Bryson Wilson held the Warriors to just one hit, while Braxton Cline and Jensen Meikle each recorded three hits, with Cline driving in four runs. Goshen now sits at 9-3, 5-1 in conference, while Wawasee falls to 2-8.

Northridge's struggles continued, dropping their sixth straight game to Mishawaka. Six defensive errors proved costly as the Raiders were out-hit 15-8. Lucas Eash and Preston Ryan each had two hits, with Eash, Luke Mann, and Quinn Knepp driving in runs. Northridge drops to 3-9, 1-5 in conference.

NorthWood powered past Plymouth on the road, scoring five runs in both the second and seventh innings. Pitcher Ean Bogan was the star, striking out 14 batters over 6.1 innings while allowing just two earned runs. Bogan also drove in two runs, joined by Brady Weaver, Finley Miller, and Drew Rains. The Panthers improve to 8-3, 4-2 in conference.

In a nail-biting NECC Tournament championship, third-ranked Churubusco edged Fairfield 5-4, with Fairfield coming up just short of tying the game in the final frame.

SOFTBALL

Concord's struggles continued with a 10-8 loss at Warsaw, marking their fifth defeat in six games. Despite scoring two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh, six errors proved too costly. Laela Moore went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Serina Masuth was 2-for-3 and scored three times. Concord falls to 3-8, 2-4 in conference.

Goshen held a shutout for five innings against Wawasee, but the Warriors rallied late to steal the win on the road.

NorthWood couldn't overcome an early deficit, allowing seven runs in the first three innings in a home loss to Plymouth. Madelyn Lambert provided the offensive highlight, hitting a home run and a double while driving in four runs. The Panthers drop to 5-10, 1-5 in conference.

Concord also fell to 2-5 with a loss to sectional foe Jimtown, though individual results were not submitted by press time.
