Tuesday, May 7, was a day of dominant performances across Greater Lansing softball diamonds, with several teams delivering statement sweeps. Here’s a look at the top action from a busy day of play.
Dansville Sweeps Pewamo-Westphalia (3-0, 5-1)
The Aggies rode a spectacular pitching performance from Laci Neal in the opener, who struck out 19 batters in a complete-game shutout. Neal then added a home run in the nightcap to lead the CMAC sweep. Ryker Graf contributed two runs and an RBI in Game 1 before earning the win in the circle in Game 2 with 12 strikeouts. Gabby Hollon added three hits and an RBI in the opener for Dansville.
Lansing Catholic Rolls Past Williamston (3-0, 20-10)
The Cougars remain unbeaten at 16-0 (10-0 in league play) thanks to a power display from the Dunneback sisters. Avery Dunneback homered in both games and drove in four runs on the day, while Taylor Dunneback was a perfect 5-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in Game 2 alone, finishing 7-for-8 overall. Katy Howard also went deep, and Alyssa LaConte collected six hits in the doubleheader. Williamston’s Shea O’Neil (10-13) tried to keep pace with two home runs and seven RBI in the nightcap.
Portland Takes Two from East Lansing (2-1, 18-4)
Mollie Milliu earned the win in Game 1 and added a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a run scored to lead the Raiders to a nonleague sweep. Lilly Thelen drove in four runs, Brynn Nelson collected three hits and two RBI, and K. Burnham added a triple and a home run for Portland. Jade Saint-Dic tripled and scored twice, while Bridget Buhl and Lexi Pena each crossed the plate for East Lansing.
Eaton Rapids Sweeps Fowlerville (7-1, 4-1)
The Greyhounds got complete-game wins from both Mae Schutte and Kalli Ordiway in a nonleague sweep. Madaelen Putnam led the offense with three hits, two doubles, and three RBI, while Danika Finch drove in two runs and Taylor Orta chipped in two hits and a run scored. Avery Borg had two hits and Ella Olrich doubled for Fowlerville in a hard-fought nightcap.
Portland St. Patrick Sweeps Saranac (4-2, 17-2)
Sean Fedewa set the tone in the opener, striking out 12 in a complete-game victory. Brady Leonard went 2-for-3 with an RBI to help the Shamrocks secure the CMAC sweep.
