The 151st Preakness Stakes is shaping up to be one for the history books—and not just because of the horses. For the first time ever, the race is moving from its iconic home at Pimlico to Laurel Park, about 20 miles south of Baltimore. The switch comes as Pimlico undergoes a massive $400 million renovation, with plans to bring the Preakness back to its historic track in 2027. That means this year's race will feel fresh, different, and full of new energy.

Without Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo in the field, the competition is wide open. Trainer Cherie DeVaux made headlines when Golden Tempo surged from 23-1 odds to win the Derby on May 2, but she's opted to skip the Preakness and focus on the Belmont Stakes instead. That leaves the door wide open for a new champion to emerge.

Fourteen horses are expected to line up at the starting gate—the largest Preakness field since 2011. Among them are three Derby veterans: Incredibolt (who finished sixth), Icelli (a stunning third at 70-1 odds), and Robusta (14th). But the horse everyone is watching is Iron Honor, the 9-2 morning line favorite from post position 9. Trained by Chad Brown, Iron Honor was held back from the Derby specifically to arrive fresh for the Preakness. Brown knows this strategy well—he's won the Preakness twice before with it, taking Cloud Computing to victory in 2017 and Early Voting in 2022.

The race will be run at Laurel Park, which is hosting the Preakness for the first time in its 151-year history. Fans can expect a different atmosphere, but the excitement remains the same. Post time is set for Saturday, and with a wide-open field and a historic venue change, this year's Preakness is a must-watch for any racing fan.
