The Alvin Kamara saga in New Orleans has taken another dramatic turn, and the rumor mill is heating up. After a week of candid podcast appearances and tense comments, the star running back's future with the Saints is more uncertain than ever.

Kamara recently appeared on teammate Terron Armstead's podcast, expressing genuine excitement about working with newly-signed Travis Etienne. But veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu countered that optimism on his own show, revealing that the relationship between Kamara and the front office is "strained." Mathieu suggested that General Manager Mickey Loomis and head coach Dennis Allen haven't exactly rolled out the red carpet for the 30-year-old back.

The ticking clock adds urgency: Kamara's contract guarantees his salary at the beginning of next month. While Mathieu believes Loomis won't simply cut him, a trade is now the leading topic of conversation.

According to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, two teams have emerged as potential trade partners. Knox notes that while Kamara would prefer to stay in New Orleans—even after the Saints handed Etienne a four-year, $48 million deal—the organization's recent moves tell a different story.

"I'm excited to see what we could do together," Kamara told The Set podcast, referencing Etienne. "That's the name of the game, shoot. Depth—one person can't do it by themselves, so I'm cool with it, man."

But the Saints have stockpiled backfield talent like never before. They brought back Devin Neal, Kendre Miller, and Audric Estimé, signed Etienne and veteran Ty Johnson, and added CJ Donaldson as an undrafted free agent. It's a crowded room for a player who has been the face of the offense.

Financially, the math changes after June 1. Trading Kamara before that date would cost the Saints an additional $7.6 million in 2026 cap space. After June 1, they'd save $456,741 in cap room by moving him. While that's not a massive windfall, it's a cleaner path to a deal.

New Orleans won't command a king's ransom for an aging running back, but Kamara's dual-threat ability—rushing and receiving—makes him a valuable chess piece for any contender needing backfield firepower. As the June 1 deadline approaches, expect the trade chatter to only intensify.
