The rumor mill is churning once again in Minnesota, and this time it's all about a familiar name: five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Back in mid-March, Hopkins openly admitted he wanted to join the Vikings for the 2026 season. Fast forward six weeks, and while he hasn't signed anywhere yet, CBS Sports still sees him as the perfect fit for Minnesota's vacant WR3 role.

The Vikings made an interesting move this spring—they completely skipped drafting a wide receiver in April. That decision left the door wide open for a veteran addition, and Hopkins is the most intriguing name still available on the free-agent market. As a red-zone target, he could provide the kind of boost that turns good offenses into great ones.

CBS Sports' Jordan Dajani recently listed the Vikings among five potential landing spots for Hopkins, alongside the Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and Los Angeles Rams. The connection? It's all about chemistry. Minnesota now has Kyler Murray under center, and Hopkins spent three seasons with Murray in Arizona from 2020 to 2022. Their first year together was electric—Hopkins hauled in 115 catches for 1,407 yards and six touchdowns.

"The Vikings have a talented wide receiving room headlined by Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison," Dajani noted. "Adding a WR3 like Hopkins who has established chemistry with Murray would be ideal."

Most analysts agree that Hopkins would be a clear upgrade over current WR3 Tai Felton, who saw minimal offensive snaps as a rookie in 2025. But it's important to set realistic expectations. In his prime, Hopkins was a dominant WR1, a go-to target who overwhelmed defenses season after season. Today, he's more of a complementary piece. In 2025, the Baltimore Ravens targeted him just 39 times—a telling sign that his role has shifted to that of a supporting player rather than an offensive centerpiece. That same trend carried over from his 2024 stints with Kansas City and Tennessee.

That context actually makes a potential Vikings fit even more logical. With Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison already commanding attention, Hopkins wouldn't need to carry the load. He could slide into a WR3 role, use his veteran savvy, and capitalize on his existing rapport with Murray. For a team looking to make a deep playoff run, that kind of addition could be the missing piece.
