Plot Twist: Columbia QB Xavier Collins leaves for Camden County just days before head-to-head matchup

In a stunning turn of events that reads more like a sports drama than a spring football matchup, Columbia High School's starting quarterback Xavier Collins has made a jaw-dropping move—transferring to Camden County just days before the two teams are set to face off on May 15 in South Georgia.

This isn't just any transfer. Collins, a Class of 2027 signal caller, had been a three-year starter for the Columbia Tigers, amassing an impressive 3,506 passing yards and 35 touchdowns over his high school career. Last season alone, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound quarterback completed 140 of 249 passes for 2,033 yards and 16 touchdowns, earning him an offer from Ave Maria University in Southwest Florida.

But here's where the plot thickens: Collins isn't the only quarterback making moves this offseason. William Jackson, another 2027 standout, left Camden County during the off-season and transferred to Orlando (FL) Evans. Jackson had a stellar junior season for the Wildcats in 2025, completing 64% of his passes for 1,923 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just five interceptions, while also rushing for 251 yards and three scores.

For Camden County, this transfer couldn't come at a better time. The Wildcats missed the GHSA postseason last year for the first time since 2017, finishing with a 6-4 record and ranked No. 53 in the state according to the final 2025 Georgia High School Football Massey Rankings. With a roster loaded with Class of 2027 talent—including four-star wide receiver Sean Green, ranked No. 33 in the state and No. 35 nationally at his position—Camden County is clearly building for a comeback.

Collins' last practice with Columbia was last Tuesday, according to a report by the Lake City Reporter. Now, the Tigers will have to face their former star quarterback when they travel to Kingsland, Georgia, for what promises to be an emotionally charged spring matchup. Whether this move will pay off for Camden County or backfire remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: this spring game just got a whole lot more interesting.
