In a dominant display of offensive firepower, the Plains Trotters stormed past Eureka with a commanding 15-8 victory on Wednesday, improving their season record to 7-7. The game was decided early as Plains jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on a combination of two singles, three walks, a passed ball, and an error—a perfect example of how pressure at the plate can force defensive miscues.
The Trotters' momentum only grew from there. In the second inning, Randi Kilgore delivered a clutch two-run double, stretching the lead to 7-1. The third inning proved to be the knockout blow, as Taylor Saner smashed a two-run triple during a six-run rally that put Plains ahead 12-1. Montana Taylor and Kilgore each drove in three runs on the day, showcasing the depth of the Trotters' lineup.
On the mound, Bri Kulawinski went the distance for Plains, scattering 11 hits and walking just one batter while striking out seven. Though she allowed five earned runs, her ability to pitch effectively through pressure kept Eureka from mounting a serious comeback.
For Eureka (4-15), Lily McAfee stood out with three hits, including two doubles, while Maren Lytle drove in three runs. The Lions showed fight late in the game, with Laina Conard, Tessa Seiler, and Dakota Witham all crossing the plate twice. Seiler added a triple and Witham chipped in a double, but it wasn't enough to overcome Plains' early surge.
This win highlights the importance of aggressive baserunning and timely hitting—qualities any softball player can work on with the right gear and practice. Whether you're a power hitter like Kilgore or a contact specialist like McAfee, having the right bat and gloves can make all the difference at the plate and in the field.
