As the temperatures dropped and the wind picked up at Sunnehanna Country Club, the Pitt-Johnstown men's golf team showed their mettle in Friday's second round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Region Tournament. The Mountain Cats held steady, maintaining their tie for third place heading into Saturday's decisive final round.

Leading the charge for Pitt-Johnstown was Eli Ropietski, who delivered a stellar performance under challenging conditions. The standout golfer carded an even 70, highlighted by a spectacular eagle on the par-five 11th hole. That strong showing vaulted him into a three-way tie for 11th place, a significant improvement from his opening round.

The team standings saw some movement at the top, with Wheeling surging ahead to claim the lead at 14-over par. Gannon sits comfortably in second at plus-16, while Pitt-Johnstown and Charleston are locked in a dead heat at plus-21. Glenville State rounds out the top five at plus-22 in a competitive field of 20 teams and four individual competitors.

On the individual leaderboard, Gannon's Rasmus Seppanen continues to set the pace. Despite a 2-over round Friday, he holds a slim one-stroke lead at minus-1 over Wheeling's Zak Collins and West Liberty's Adam Gill, who are both at even par.

Ropietski's climb up the ranks didn't go unnoticed. After opening with a 3-over 73 on Thursday, his even-par round Friday places him in a tie for third alongside Gannon's Mattia Parrini and Charleston's Pau Sanchez at plus-3. It's exactly the kind of momentum shift that could propel him into contention for an individual berth at the national championships.

The Mountain Cats' depth was on full display as well. Griffin Hansberry and Lucas Smith both shot even par Friday, landing in a 14-way tie for 19th at plus-5. Mauricio Hernandez fired a 3-over 73 to settle into a 10-way tie for 44th at plus-9, while David Razinskas rounds out the squad at plus-10, tied for 55th.

With everything on the line Saturday, the stakes couldn't be higher. The top three teams and the top two individuals not on an advancing team will punch their tickets to the NCAA Division II championships, set for May 18-22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.

The final round tees off at 7:30 a.m., with Pitt-Johnstown slated to start in the final four groups beginning at 12:40 p.m. For a team that's battled through chilly winds and fierce competition, Saturday represents their shot at glory—and a chance to keep their championship dreams alive.
