The Detroit Pistons are refusing to go quietly. In a must-win Game 6 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series, the Pistons delivered a commanding 115-94 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night, keeping their playoff hopes alive and forcing a decisive Game 7 back in Detroit.
Led by Cade Cunningham's 21 points, including five three-pointers, Detroit showcased the kind of balanced scoring that has made them the top seed in the East. Cunningham was one of six Pistons to reach double figures, with Paul Reed providing a spark off the bench with 17 points. Center Jalen Duren anchored the defense with a dominant performance, hauling in 11 rebounds, swatting three shots, and adding a steal to his 15-point night. Daniss Jenkins also chipped in 15 points.
"We're just playing our brand of basketball, coming out competing, trying to execute our system to the best of our ability, and we're together," Cunningham said after the win. "We stick together through everything, so it's a great win for us."
The Cavaliers entered the night unbeaten at Rocket Arena this postseason, but the Pistons wasted no time changing that narrative. After Cleveland jumped out to a six-point lead in the first quarter, Detroit responded with a devastating 22-4 run that turned the game on its head. The Pistons built a 39-27 lead early in the second quarter and, despite the Cavs closing the gap to 54-51 by halftime, Detroit regrouped impressively. A dominant 30-19 third quarter put the Pistons up by 14 heading into the final frame, and they never looked back.
James Harden led Cleveland with 23 points, while Donovan Mitchell was held to just 18. The Cavs will now have to win on the road Sunday in a winner-take-all Game 7 if they hope to advance to the conference finals. For the Pistons, it's a chance to complete the comeback and prove that their brand of basketball is built to last.
