The Detroit Pistons are facing a critical Game 5 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but they'll have to do it without one of their sharpshooters. Duncan Robinson has been ruled out for Wednesday night's matchup due to low back soreness, marking his first absence of the postseason.
Robinson's timing couldn't be worse. After a stellar playoff run where he averaged 11.5 points and shot an impressive 43.6% from three-point range over 11 games, he struggled mightily in Monday's 112-103 Game 4 loss—his worst performance of the playoffs. While the exact cause of the injury remains unclear, his absence leaves a significant gap in the Pistons' offensive scheme.
"He has been huge for us," Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. "He is a guy who carries weight and gravity. He is a mover. He helps facilitate our offense in so many different ways. Obviously, his shot-making ability, but also the threat that comes with his shot-making ability. It makes him dangerous and forces players to make tough decisions. He has been really important for us and continues to be."
Stepping into the starting lineup in Robinson's place will be Daniss Jenkins, who will look to provide a spark on both ends of the floor.
There is some good news for Detroit, however. Kevin Huerter is set to return after missing the last seven games with a left adductor strain. The guard suffered the injury during Game 3 of the first-round series against the Orlando Magic on April 25. His return adds depth to a backcourt that desperately needs shooting and playmaking against a tough Cavaliers defense.
As the Pistons look to bounce back and take control of the series, all eyes will be on how the lineup adjustments play out in this pivotal Game 5 showdown.
