The Pittsburgh Pirates are making noise in the National League Central, and it's not just because of their electric ace, Paul Skenes. With standout performances from Oneil Cruz, Brandon Lowe, and Ryan O'Hearn, this team is suddenly looking like a legitimate postseason contender. But if they want to make a real push, they need to address one glaring weakness: the catcher position.

Enter Ryan Jeffers of the Minnesota Twins. The 28-year-old backstop has been quietly crushing it this season, posting an impressive .884 OPS through 23 games. In 92 plate appearances, Jeffers has racked up 22 hits, 15 runs, three home runs, and 18 RBIs while batting .293. That kind of production is exactly what the Pirates need behind the plate.

Currently, Pittsburgh's catching situation is a major drag on the lineup. Henry Davis is hitting just .161 with a .467 OPS, while Joey Bart hasn't fared much better at .195. As Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller notes, the Pirates' catcher spot ranks among the five least productive positions in all of baseball. That's a tough pill to swallow for a team with playoff aspirations.

Jeffers is in the final year of his contract, making him an attractive rental option for a Twins team that could be sellers at the deadline. For Pittsburgh, adding a catcher with his offensive firepower would be a game-changer. With the trade deadline approaching, this is the kind of move that could turn a 16-15 start into a serious October run.
