Pittsburgh Pirates starter Carmen Mlodzinski was rolling through three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth after a costly catcher’s interference in a 5-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field on Sunday afternoon.

Bottom 4th, : The Brewers (14-13) took their first lead of the series and poured it on against Pirates starter Carmen Mlodzinski (1-2). Gary Sánchez drove in a run on a groundout, David Hamilton plated another run with a double to right-center. Later in the inning, Brandon Lockridge singled home two more.

Carmen Mlodzinski got two outs in the fourth and was ahead 1-2 against Sal Frelick but a catcher’s interference charged to Joey Bart extended the inning and the Brewers capitalized with four more runs.

The Pirates (16-12) loaded the bases with two outs against Brewers reliever Aaron Ashby in the top of the eighth but Bryan Reynolds grounded out to second for the third out.

Brewers starter Kyle Harrison (2-1) set a career-high with 12 strikeouts in six-shutout innings against the Pirates. He allowed one hit, walked one and threw 72 of his 101 pitches for strikes.

The series win for the Pirates was their first in Milwaukee since July 9-11, 2024. Pittsburgh has only completed a sweep at Miller Park/American Family Field four times since the ballpark first opened in 2001 (the last came in 2022).

Carmen Mlodzinski: 3.2 innings, five hits, five runs (four earned), one walk, four strikeouts, 81 pitches/52 strikes

Nick Gonzales extended his hitting streak to seven games with a double to left field in the seventh.

The Pirates went 0 for 6 with four strikeouts with runners in scoring position.

Carmen Mlodzinski has not allowed a home run in 75 consecutive innings. That’s the longest active streak in baseball.

The Pirates will return to PNC Park to start a seven-game homestand with the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night. Pittsburgh has yet to announce a starter and will face RHP Dustin May (3-2, 5.84 ERA). First pitch: 6:40 p.m. ET on Sports Net Pittsburgh+/93.7 The Fan.
