In a dominant display of athleticism and depth, the Pierce City girls' track and field team captured the Class 2 District 6 title Saturday at Lamar, amassing an impressive 144 points to leave the competition in the dust. Skyline finished a distant second with 92 points, while Miller rounded out the top three with 80.
The Eagles soared thanks to standout performances across multiple event categories. Paige Fenske emerged as a triple champion, clearing a personal-best 2.98 meters to win the pole vault, then adding victories in the long jump (5.14 meters) and triple jump (10.61 meters). Her versatility was a key factor in Pierce City's commanding team score.
Emma Hunt showcased her endurance on the track, winning both distance events. She took the 1,600-meter run in 5:34.66 and followed it up with a victory in the 3,200-meter race at 12:28.52, setting the pace from start to finish.
Liliana Lasker brought the speed, claiming the 200-meter dash (26.17 seconds) and the 400-meter race (59.04 seconds)—both personal bests that highlighted her explosive talent. Addison Avondet added to the haul by winning the 300-meter hurdles in 49.39 seconds and securing a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (17.12 seconds).
In the field events, Elizabeth Sharp made her mark with a personal-best throw of 35 meters to win the discus, while Grace Broderick contributed a third-place finish in the javelin with a personal-best 32.16 meters and matched that placement in the long jump (4.74 meters).
The relay teams also delivered, with Fenske, Sophia Prater, Avondet, and Lasker taking second in the 4x400-meter relay (4:19.59). Sophia Cruz, Prater, Katy Leavitt, and Hunt earned runner-up honors in the 4x800-meter relay (11:09.91).
Sarcoxie athletes made their presence felt as well. Jordyn Misner sprinted to second in the 100-meter hurdles (16.91 seconds) and also placed runner-up in the triple jump (9.76 meters). Alexis Lett cleared 1.57 meters for second in the high jump. Aspen Daniel won the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best 16.81 seconds, while Madisyn Brooks, Bertha Hansen, Ava Jones, and Daniel combined for third in the 4x100-meter relay (54.79 seconds).
For Pierce City, this district title is a testament to their all-around strength—from sprints to distance, hurdles to throws—and sets the stage for a promising postseason run.
