The PIAA Team Championships are heating up, and two local powerhouses are making serious noise on the court. Abington Heights and Wyoming Seminary both kept their perfect seasons alive with impressive first-round victories Tuesday at Birchwood Racquet Club, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting run toward the state title.

For Abington Heights, the 3-2 win over Radnor wasn't just another notch in the win column—it was a historic breakthrough. The Comets (16-0) punched their ticket to the Class 3A quarterfinals for the first time since 2015, snapping a frustrating streak of seven straight first-round exits. Leading the charge were singles stars Prayush Mallaiah and Brady Comstock, who both delivered clutch performances to stay undefeated on the season. The doubles team of Liam Farrell and Bryce Comstock also came through with a decisive win at No. 1 doubles, proving that depth is this team's secret weapon.

The Comets' next challenge comes Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Hershey Racquet Club, where they'll face Upper St. Clair—a District 7 runner-up that boasts a formidable singles lineup. Upper St. Clair swept its first-round match against Taylor Allderdice, with Carter Litchman, Sidney Weissert, and freshman Ethan Yealy all posting wins. It's a matchup that tests Abington Heights' resilience, especially after years of coming up short in the opening round.

Over in Class 2A, Wyoming Seminary (16-0) made quick work of District 3 champion Camp Hill, cruising to a 3-0 victory. District 2 singles champion Billy Hall set the tone with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while the doubles teams of Thomas Hill-James Bobeck and Hubert Huang-Aarav Gupta sealed the deal. The Blue Knights now face District 10 champion Cathedral Prep (15-3) on Friday at 2:30 p.m., a team that swept its own first-round match with straight-set wins across the board.

Abington Heights' path to the quarterfinals was anything but easy. Mallaiah battled through a three-set thriller at No. 1 singles, edging Carter McIlwain 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (2), while Brady Comstock controlled his match at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win. The Comets' last quarterfinal appearances at Hershey resulted in wins over Harriton (2014) and Radnor (2015) before falling in the semifinals—a memory that fuels this year's squad as they look to go even further.

With both teams undefeated and playing with confidence, the PIAA quarterfinals promise high-stakes tennis and plenty of drama. Whether you're tracking the Comets' historic run or the Blue Knights' relentless dominance, one thing is clear: these teams are dressed for success—on and off the court.
