McFarlane, a 24-year-old right-hander currently pitching at Double-A, has been nothing short of dominant this season. Through 13 appearances and 12.1 innings, he boasts a microscopic 0.73 ERA, along with three saves, a 1-1 record, 17 strikeouts, and a 1.05 WHIP. Those numbers are a stark contrast to his 2024 campaign, where he posted a 4.84 ERA over 28 games (18 starts) and looked like a middling prospect at best.

This season, however, McFarlane has turned a corner. His recent performance has earned him a spot on the team's 4-man roster, and he's on track for a rapid ascent through the Phillies' minor league system. A promotion to Triple-A could be imminent, and if he continues to impress, a Major League debut later this year is well within reach.

The timing couldn't be better. Behind Duran and Orion Kerkering, the Phillies' bullpen has been a weak link. Brad Keller has a 4.32 ERA, Jose Alvarado sits at 5.40, Tanner Banks at 5.94, and Jonathan Bowlan at 5.68. That kind of inconsistency puts immense pressure on the back end of the game.
