Phil Foden has finally opened up about his challenging season at Manchester City, delivering a powerful response after being handed a rare start in Wednesday's crucial 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

The England international was named Player of the Match after producing a masterclass performance that included two stunning assists. His first came via a brilliant back-heel for Antoine Semenyo's opener after 32 minutes, followed by another creative setup for Omar Marmoush just before half-time.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, a relieved Foden admitted: "We were all excited to play and ready. It was a massive game, a must-win game, and I'm really happy!"

Reflecting on his world-class assist for the opening goal, the 25-year-old explained: "I checked my shoulder a few times before receiving the ball. I'd seen Ant make a good movement. Sometimes it doesn't come off, but sometimes the risk is worth trying. I'm very delighted it came off and we scored from it."

The performance marked a significant statement from Foden, who has struggled for consistency this season. Since the January arrival of Semenyo from Bournemouth, he has found himself on the fringes of Pep Guardiola's preferred starting XI, making this display all the more meaningful.

With City needing all three points to keep their Premier League title hopes alive, Foden stepped up when it mattered most. The win cuts Arsenal's lead at the top to just two points, keeping Manchester City's dreams of a historic ninth league title and second domestic treble very much alive.

Guardiola's side now turn their attention to Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea, where they'll aim to lift their second piece of silverware this season. For Foden, this performance couldn't have come at a better time.
