Everton's interim manager Scott Phelan remains in the dark about his long-term future at the club, despite steering the Women's Super League side through a turbulent season. Since taking the reins following Brian Sorensen's dismissal in February, Phelan has sparked a remarkable turnaround, guiding the Toffees to three consecutive WSL victories and steadying the ship at Goodison Park.

As Everton prepare for their season finale against bottom-placed Leicester City, sitting comfortably in eighth place, Phelan admitted there's been no word from the club about extending his tenure. "Nothing to report in terms of things that are more long term," he shared, "but in the short term, we're happy with how we've done so far."

The interim boss, who has clearly embraced the challenge, added: "I've really enjoyed it. Obviously, the decision is a club one, but it's definitely something that I've enjoyed and the staff have. It's been an amazing experience and an amazing opportunity which I'm really fortunate to have had."

Reflecting on his impact, Phelan believes the team has made its mark despite the disruption. "We feel like we've made an impression. We feel like we've ticked off the obstacles that were set. We'll see where that goes moving forward."

Looking beyond his own role, Phelan is already thinking about how Everton can build a more stable foundation next season after what he calls a "disruptive campaign." His prescription for success? A clearer identity. "One of my suggestions would probably be finding a greater sense of identity amongst the group," he explained. "One of the first things I noticed was probably a little bit of uncertainty around how we play and what it stands for. That's something any group needs to understand before they can start to develop and push forward."

For now, all eyes are on Sunday's clash with Leicester—a game that could define Phelan's legacy, whether or not his future is decided.
