Jake Knapp, who has been battling a thumb injury, withdrew from his second straight event, the Truist Championship, this week.

Jake Knapp's injury woes continue as the PGA Tour pro has withdrawn from his second consecutive signature event. The 31-year-old former UCLA standout pulled out of this week's Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, just days after skipping the Cadillac Championship due to a sprained left thumb.

Knapp, a two-time Tour winner, was forced to miss his tee time last Thursday at the Cadillac Championship, and now the lingering thumb issue has sidelined him again from another no-cut, high-stakes event. The timing couldn't be worse, as these signature tournaments offer significant FedExCup points and prize money.

Stepping in to fill Knapp's spot is Austin Smotherman, also 31, who was originally scheduled to play in the opposite-field OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic in South Carolina. Smotherman will now get a prime opportunity at Quail Hollow.

Despite this setback, Knapp has had an impressive season, making eight of nine cuts and recording five top-10 finishes. He currently sits at No. 36 in the Official World Golf Ranking and remains in the field for next week's PGA Championship, one of golf's major events. Golf fans will be watching closely to see if his thumb heals in time for that prestigious tournament.
