For a decade, Grady Jarrett was the anchor of the Atlanta Falcons' defensive line, a consistent force in the trenches. His departure to the Chicago Bears last season, however, exposed a glaring void. The Falcons' failure to build a formidable front around him after their 2017 Super Bowl run has left the interior defensive line as a critical weakness heading into a pivotal offseason.

This assessment isn't just fan speculation; it's backed by analytics. Pro Football Focus has pinpointed defensive tackle as the Falcons' single-greatest roster need entering the 2026 NFL Draft. The unit took another hit with David Onyemata's exit in free agency, leaving a rotation that currently lacks a proven, disruptive presence up the middle.

While young edge defender Zach Harrison shows promise, and the team added Da'Shawn Hand, the interior demands a foundational player. As PFF notes, the Falcons "could use a steady presence up the middle" to solidify their defense and elevate the play of those around them.

The good news for Atlanta is they have the capital to address it. Holding the 48th overall pick in the second round, they don't necessarily have to reach, but they also can't afford to wait too long. Expect the Falcons to target a defensive tackle by the end of the third round (pick No. 79) to inject talent into the heart of their defense.

Mock drafts are already buzzing with potential fits. Names like Florida's Caleb Banks, Texas Tech's Lee Hunter, and local standout Christen Miller from Georgia are frequently linked to Atlanta. Whichever path they choose, fortifying the defensive interior is the clear and urgent mission for the Falcons' draft war room.
