PFF Names Ideal Free Agent for Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are eyeing a potential boost to their wide receiver corps for the 2026 season, and Pro Football Focus has pinpointed an ideal candidate: veteran Deebo Samuel. Despite being one of the more notable names in free agency, Samuel has surprisingly remained unsigned two months into the offseason—a drought that PFF analyst Bradley Locker believes should end in Minnesota.

At 30 years old, Samuel still has productive years ahead, bringing a blend of experience, versatility, and explosive playmaking to the table. His ability to generate yards after the catch would add a dynamic element to the Vikings' offense, complementing stars Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

Locker recently ranked the top 10 free agents still available and matched Samuel with the Vikings, noting that Minnesota focused on shoring up its defense in the draft—selecting Caleb Banks, Jake Golday, and Domonique Orange with their first three picks. However, the team didn't address receiver in the draft, a move many expected, leaving a gap after Jalen Nailor's departure to the Raiders.

"Samuel's effectiveness has dipped slightly over the last two seasons, but he still posted a solid 70.3 PFF receiving grade and 1.66 yards per route run in 2025," Locker wrote. "His 6.5 yards after the catch per reception ranked fourth among wideouts with 95 or more targets. Pairing him with Jefferson and Addison could fill Nailor's slot role while injecting more creativity and after-catch juice into Kevin O'Connell's offense."

Samuel's career stats speak for themselves. Over seven seasons, he's consistently produced, including a standout 2021 campaign with 77 receptions for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns. Last season with Washington, he hauled in 72 catches for 727 yards and five scores. Beyond receiving, Samuel brings rare versatility as a runner, tallying over 1,200 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground in his career.

While his speed may have slightly declined, Samuel's proven track record and multi-dimensional skill set make him a compelling fit for a Vikings team looking to reload offensively. For fans and fantasy enthusiasts alike, this potential signing could be the spark Minnesota needs heading into the new season.
