For 44 years, the Petoskey Parks and Recreation department has celebrated the individuals who shape the next generation of athletes through the prestigious Glenn H. Casey Award. This year, the honor goes to Bryan Shaw—a fitting tribute to a leader whose impact on youth sports in the community is truly remarkable.
While the award recognizes Shaw's decades of dedication, it's worth noting that the spirit of competition and camaraderie he champions was on full display recently at the Petoskey-Bay View Country Club. The Petoskey boys golf team hosted a strong field of programs on Monday, May 11, including Gaylord, Boyne City, and both Traverse City West and Central. Traverse City West claimed the team victory with an impressive 312, while Gaylord finished third at 318, and the host team Petoskey rounded out the top five with a 333.
These kinds of events are exactly what the Glenn H. Casey Award is all about—recognizing the unsung heroes who make youth sports not just possible, but memorable. Shaw's recognition is a reminder that behind every great team and every great performance, there are dedicated volunteers and leaders who ensure the game goes on.
Whether you're coaching from the sidelines or cheering from the stands, the passion for youth sports is what builds stronger communities—and Bryan Shaw embodies that spirit perfectly.
