Pep Guardiola has made it clear he wants Nathan Ake to remain at Manchester City beyond this season, and it's easy to see why. The Dutch defender has been nothing short of exceptional in his recent starts at centre-back, proving time and again why he's one of the most reliable players in Guardiola's squad.

Ake was outstanding in City's dominant 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday, following up his brilliant performance in the Carabao Cup final win against Arsenal at Wembley in late February. Whenever called upon, Ake delivers—a trait that has defined his entire tenure at the club since arriving from Bournemouth.

Speaking ahead of City's crucial Premier League showdown with Crystal Palace, Guardiola heaped praise on the 29-year-old, highlighting his professionalism and consistency. "Nathan the job he has to do in terms of focus, is one of the best and there are few players who are more reliable," Guardiola explained.

The City boss acknowledged that Ake struggles when asked to play every three days, but emphasized his ability to perform at the highest level when rested. "If he has to play every few days, he struggles, but the final of the Carabao Cup, the last game against Brentford, he is complete. Wow. He is one of the best I ever had," Guardiola said. "Apart from that, he is one of the most incredible teammates for his manager and his teammates and has been an incredible signing from Bournemouth. He played in the Champions League final in Istanbul, that is how reliable he is. Top guy and a top player."

When asked about Ake's future, Guardiola was hopeful but cautious. "One more year, right? I wish he stays with us, but I don't know what is going to happen."

This comes at a critical time for Manchester City, with experienced players like John Stones and Bernardo Silva expected to depart when their contracts expire this summer. Their exits will leave a significant void in terms of leadership and experience within the squad. Keeping Ake—a proven performer who understands Guardiola's system inside and out—would provide crucial stability as City look to reload for another title challenge next season.
