While Penn State football is always built on a foundation of tough defense and a powerful running game, every great team needs a field general. For the 2026 Nittany Lions, that leader is poised to be quarterback Rocco Becht, a seasoned transfer ready to command the huddle in Happy Valley.

Becht arrives with a proven track record of winning. After a redshirt year, he exploded onto the scene at Iowa State, earning Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honors in 2023 by throwing for over 3,100 yards and 23 touchdowns. He followed that up by engineering a historic 2024 campaign, leading the Cyclones to an 11-3 record, a Big 12 title game appearance, and the program's first-ever double-digit win season.

His final year in Ames was a test of resilience, battling through injuries but still managing to surpass 9,200 career passing yards and an impressive 64 touchdowns. Most notably, he entered the transfer portal with 26 wins as a starter—the most of any active FBS quarterback at the time—bringing a veteran's poise and a winner's mentality to State College.

Now wearing the blue and white, Becht represents the immediate future for Penn State. His experience is the perfect bridge for a new coaching staff, offering stability and high-level play from day one. The expectation is for him to fuse the best elements of his prolific Iowa State offense with the elite talent surrounding him at Penn State, taking his game—and the team's aspirations—to the next level.
