Penn State finally lands future QB from Class of 2027

Penn State’s search for a quarterback of the future is finally over after 3-star prospect Will Wood announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions.

Penn State has been building one of the nation's top recruiting classes, but there was one glaring hole: the quarterback position. That search has finally come to an end.

Three-star quarterback Will Wood has officially committed to the Nittany Lions, giving Penn State a signal-caller for the future. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound prospect chose Happy Valley over Boston College, Arkansas, and West Virginia, announcing his decision via Rivals.

"Happy Valley I'm H🦁ME, let's get to work!" Wood said in his commitment statement.

The timing couldn't be more critical. While Rocco Becht is expected to lead the offense this season, he's a redshirt senior with limited eligibility remaining. Penn State had previously targeted five-star Will Mencl and four-star Peter Bourque, but both chose Oregon and Virginia Tech, respectively. That made Wood—who had been linked to the program for months—a priority target.

Steve Wiltfong of On3 Sports had predicted Wood's commitment earlier this week, and the crystal ball projection proved accurate. According to Wood's 247Sports scouting report, he's a big-game performer who thrives under pressure—exactly what Penn State needs after years of quarterback struggles in clutch moments.

The quarterback position has been heavily scrutinized in State College over the past decade, and Wood will face an uphill battle. With a favorable 2026 schedule on the horizon, expectations will be high from day one. But if his scouting report is any indication, the three-star prospect has the tools to change the program's fortunes.

For Penn State fans, the future under center just got a whole lot brighter.
