The Penn Relays came to a close Saturday evening with the running of the high school boys 4X400 Championship of America.

Bullis School of Maryland became the first American high school to win the event since Long Beach Poly of California in 2007 in what turned out to be a 1-2 finish for U.S. schools as Archbishop John Carroll of D.C. crossed the line in second place. Bullis set the pace with a time of 3:10:15 – exactly three seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Four Jamaican quartets were among the nine teams in the field which also included teams from Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Jamaican teams also dominated the field in the running of the 4X100 Championship of America with eight of the nine squads hailing from the Caribbean Island. Jamaica College finished in first with a 40.03 while the only American team in the field – The St. James Academy of Virginia – finished third with a clocking of 40.38.

The 4X800 Championship of America title when to Union Catholic of New Jersey with a time of 7:41:14, just ahead of IMG Academy of Florida (7:42:71).

The 4X400 win by Bullis brought the three-day event to a close. This year marked the 130th running of the Penn Relays, an event that dates back to April 21, 1895. It's the oldest track and field competition staged in the United States with more than 15,000 athletes competing annually and at least 100,000 spectators regularly attending across the event's three days.
