Lake Superior State University has just landed a major offensive weapon, and Pittsburgh Penguins fans should be taking notice. Cooper Foster, a sixth-round pick (174th overall) in the 2023 NHL Draft, has officially committed to the Lakers, bringing his elite playmaking vision and scoring touch to the CCHA.

The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native announced his decision via Instagram, capping off a dominant junior career with the OHL's Ottawa 67's. Over the past three seasons, Foster has consistently produced at or near a point-per-game pace, showcasing his ability to read the ice and maneuver through traffic toward the middle of the offensive zone. In his final OHL campaign, he tallied an impressive 66 points—29 goals and 37 assists—in 66 games. Before his time in Ottawa, Foster also claimed a 2022 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) Championship and league MVP honors with the Soo Thunderbirds, proving his winning pedigree at every level.

For the Lakers, this addition couldn't come at a better time. Lake Superior State finished seventh in the nine-team CCHA last season with an 8-16-2 record, before falling to St. Thomas in the Mason Cup Quarterfinals. However, with Foster's vision and experience, there's reason for optimism. If head coach Damon Whitten pairs him with fellow underclassmen Calem Mangone and Hunter Ramos, the Lakers could finally have the offensive firepower to make some serious noise in the conference this coming season.
