Celtic legend Paul McStay has broken his silence, confirming his pivotal role in Lord Willie Haughey's ambitious new season ticket alliance campaign. The initiative, which has captured the attention of the Celtic support, aims to fundamentally strengthen the fans' voice in the club's boardroom decisions.
The campaign's financial structure is bold and community-driven. Haughey has pledged to contribute £2 million of his own money for every 10,000 supporters who sign up. With the potential backing of all 54,000 season ticket holders, the campaign could generate a staggering £10 million war chest, earmarked to empower the supporter base.
McStay, known as 'The Maestro' from his iconic playing days, revealed his immediate commitment during an appearance on Go Radio. "I definitely will be back for whatever is required," McStay stated. "It’s a very important initiative, I’m delighted to be part of it. I’m willing to give up my time to maybe help in a little way to make things better."
He emphasized the core principle of unity, a value deeply ingrained in Celtic's identity. "Everybody just wants the same thing at Celtic," McStay explained. "Everybody’s got different opinions but the key thing is that come a Saturday, they’re all there together getting behind the team and supporting them." His involvement, stemming from a 40-year friendship with Haughey, adds considerable weight and credibility to the project, bridging the club's glorious past with its future direction.
This move represents a significant moment for Celtic, as a club legend aligns with a major fan-backed initiative designed to foster a new era of collaboration between the stands and the executive suite.
