Paul George didn't hold back when reflecting on the Philadelphia 76ers' abrupt playoff exit and his first two seasons in the City of Brotherly Love. After a thrilling first-round comeback against the Boston Celtics, the Sixers ran out of gas against the New York Knicks, getting swept in a series that slipped away in heartbreaking fashion.

"We hung in there against Boston," George said after the elimination. "I thought we pulled everything that we had out of each other. We were trending in the right direction, but ultimately, we ran into a hot New York team. They came out hot. They threw haymakers early, and they kept on."

For George, the 2023-24 season was a true roller coaster. The nine-time All-Star missed the first 12 games after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in the offseason, then dealt with inconsistent performances upon his return. A 25-game suspension for violating the league's anti-drug policy further disrupted his rhythm. He returned for the final 10 games of the regular season looking rejuvenated, only to fade down the stretch against the Knicks—scoring 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting in the first quarter of Game 3, but managing just seven points on 3-for-16 shooting over the final seven quarters of the series.

Through two seasons in Philadelphia, George has played only 78 games, averaging 16.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists while shooting 37.5% from deep. The production hasn't matched the superstar billing, but he's shown flashes of elite defense and steady leadership. Despite the tough sledding, George remains positive about his time with the Sixers.

"It was great," he said. "Great fans, the support—I think through the ups and downs, it's been a special experience."

As the Sixers head into an offseason full of questions, George's durability and fit will be key storylines. But for now, the veteran is focused on the positives—and on getting back to work.
