The New England Patriots entered last weekend's rookie minicamp with just two open roster spots, but after evaluating 17 undrafted hopefuls at Gillette Stadium, one player made an undeniable case for himself.
According to sources, the Patriots are signing undrafted rookie safety Peter Manuma to a contract later today. The former Hawaii standout was among 17 rookies invited to Foxborough for a tryout, and during Saturday's open practice, he turned heads with an impressive display of speed and athleticism.
Manuma brings a decorated collegiate résumé to New England. A two-time team captain and four-year starter, he was named Hawaii's Defensive MVP last season after recording 80 tackles and seven pass breakups. His 280 career tackles rank tied for 15th all-time in program history—a testament to his consistency and durability.
At 6-foot, 200 pounds, Manuma also posted strong pre-draft testing numbers, running a 4.49 40-yard dash with a 35.5-inch vertical and a 10-foot broad jump. That athletic profile fits well with a Patriots team that didn't address the safety position in the 2026 NFL Draft.
New England's current safety room features All-Pro Kevin Byard, Craig Woodson, veteran Mike Brown, and depth pieces like Dell Pettus, John Saunders Jr., and Brenden Schooler. By signing Manuma, the Patriots add another athletic option to the mix—and reward a player who clearly made the most of his opportunity last weekend.
