Patriots rookie linebacker Quintayvious Hutchins, a seventh-round draft pick, is facing legal trouble just weeks after being selected by the team. The 22-year-old former Boston College standout was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery following an incident at a Boston College dormitory on Tuesday night.
According to a police report obtained by WBZ, officers responded to a call about an argument between a man and a woman at the dorm. Witnesses told police that during the altercation, Hutchins grabbed the woman by the neck, and both individuals were seen pushing each other. The report also noted that the woman declined to have photos taken of her neck and stated she was "OK" in her own account of the incident.
Hutchins, who spent his college career playing for the Eagles, was arraigned on Wednesday morning. He pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance.
The Patriots organization quickly issued a statement addressing the situation: "We are aware of the report involving Quintayvious Hutchins. We take these matters very seriously and are in the process of gathering additional information. We will not have further comment at this time."
This development comes as a setback for the young linebacker, who was looking to make his mark in the NFL after being drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round. While the legal process unfolds, the team is likely to monitor the situation closely as they prepare for the upcoming season. For now, Hutchins' status with the team remains uncertain as more details emerge.
