The New England Patriots made headlines in 2025 with an unprecedented $364 million spending spree to overhaul a roster that had fallen into disrepair. But before the market even officially opened, they made their first major splash: signing Harold Landry to a three-year, $43.5 million contract after his release from the Tennessee Titans.

Now entering the second season of that deal, the veteran edge defender finds himself at a critical crossroads. After all, in the NFL, the ninth season often separates the elite from the merely good—and Landry is squarely in "bounce-back or bust" territory.

Standing 6'2 3/8" and 252 pounds, with a 78 7/8" wingspan and a 36-inch vertical jump, Landry boasts the kind of athletic profile that made him a 41st overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. His 4.64-second 40-yard dash and 6.88-second 3-cone drill highlight the explosiveness that once made him a Pro Bowler.

Landry's journey began at Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, NC, where he was a three-star recruit before heading to Boston College. After a backup role as a true freshman, he became a fixture on the Eagles' defensive line from 2015 onward, earning All-ACC honors twice (second team in 2016, third team in 2017). Over four college seasons, he racked up 158 tackles, 48 tackles for loss, 25 sacks, and 10 forced fumbles—a stat line that turned heads across the league.

The Titans selected him in the second round, and after a rotational rookie year, Landry hit his stride. From Year 2 through his fourth season, he compiled 256 tackles, 31 sacks, and three forced fumbles, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2021. That performance earned him a five-year, $87.5 million extension—but less than six months later, a torn ACL in practice sidelined him for the entire 2022 campaign.

Landry returned strong in 2023, proving he could still be a disruptive force off the edge. Now, with the Patriots counting on him to anchor their rebuilt defense, the question is whether he can rediscover that Pro Bowl form—or if Father Time and injury history will finally catch up.
